Dear Madison Community,
What a week! The weather this past week has been brutal. When 20-degree weather seems warm, we know it has been really cold. Please know that I do not make the decision to close school lightly, and the safety of our students and staff members is of the utmost importance. I am hopeful that the calls for bad weather will be few and far between in February and March. The good news is that we are almost to the halfway point of winter.
I want to take this opportunity to recognize our Eighth Grade Girls’ Basketball Team for winning the CVC championship last weekend. Coach Melissa Colarik, the eighth-grade coach, and Coach Lee Polzer, the seventh-grade coach, have worked hard with these young ladies the last two years and have helped to build an exciting program. Congratulations to all!
As the calendar turns to February, many exciting things will happen in the district next month. The first is the 15th Anniversary of World Read Aloud Day. Reading aloud and telling stories is a great way to instill a life-long love of reading in children. Take time to read to your children and grandchildren. It will make a huge difference in helping to develop fundamental literacy skills. February 14, 2025 will be the annual Project Unify student-faculty basketball game at Madison High School. This game celebrates the district’s commitment to an inclusive environment for all students.
Second semester conferences are also on the horizon. Elementary conferences will be held on January 30 and February 5; Middle School conference dates are February 13 and 20; and High School conferences will be February 20 and 26. If you require additional information, please contact your child’s principal.
Our Newsletter this week features articles on the Madison Local Schools annual Spelling Bee, a late art teacher being honored by his hometown, Health and Hygiene tips to stay safe during cold and flu season, and our alumni spotlight is on Mindy Polzer, South Elementary School fifth grade teacher. Please take time to read what is going on in the district. If there is something you want to know more about regarding the district, please email me at angela.smith@madisonschools.net.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. #MadisonStrong!
Sincerely,
Angela Smith
Superintendent
