Dear Madison Community,
We are very excited for the 2023-2024 school year! Our theme this year is, “We are Madison, a Community of Joy!” As you peruse our website and other publications, our students’ faces say it all. Our job as a school community is to do our best to educate our students and help them find the joy in lifelong learning.
As I reflect on all my years in education, the joy for me in this job is seeing students succeed in a multitude of ways that include not only academic achievement, but all the opportunities our schools provide, from athletics and performing arts to student government, community service, various clubs, and more. Our students excelling in the things they love always brings me great joy.
A huge positive of social media is providing a source to see the success of former students. From my first teaching job in Akron, to my time with Mentor, and now my 20 years at Madison, whenever I have seen former students succeed, it brings a smile to my face.
Thus, as we enter the 2023-2024 school year, the excitement and joy of starting a new school year filled with wonder and opportunities for our students is magical, as are many moments throughout the school year. From reading to kindergarteners, to honoring our seniors at graduation, and everything in between, I look forward to sharing the joy of the Madison Local School District with you this year.
Welcome to all our students and families for what we all hope will be a rewarding and enriching school year. Please reach out to me if you have questions or concerns.
Yours in Education,
Angela Smith
Superintendent
Madison Local School District
About the Superintendent's Office
The Superintendent of Schools is the chief executive officer of, and is appointed by, the Madison Local Board of Education.
The Superintendent is responsible for administering all aspects of school district affairs in accordance with federal and state laws, the standards and regulations of the Ohio Department of Education, and the adopted policies and rules and regulations of the Madison Local Board of Education.
Responsible for the administration and supervision of the school district, the Superintendent is the professional advisor of the Board and leader of both the teaching staff and support staff. Since division of labor is essential for managing a large organization, it is expected that the Superintendent will delegate portions of the administrative tasks to building principals and appropriate staff. The responsibility for all activities within any building during school hours belongs to the person deemed accountable to the Superintendent.
The Superintendent exercises leadership and contributes to worthwhile civic activities and enterprises for the benefit of the entire Madison community.
