Coaching requirements for Madison Schools

In order to coach in the Madison Local School District, you must have the following certifications:

1. BCI/FBI fingerprint check (every 5 years)

You can get this done at most Lake Health walk in clinic.  Fee is about $90.  You need 2 COPIES.  Have an electronic copy sent to the Ohio Department of Education, and a second copy sent to: Athletic Director, Madison HS, 3100 Burns Rd. Madison Ohio 44047

2. Concussion course (every year)

This is a free course and takes 20-25 minutes.

3. Sudden Cardiac Arrest course
This is a free course and must be done each year through your OH/ID account
Each year, coaches must review the Ohio Department of Health's new video and related fact sheet. Although districts may choose how they will verify completion, the Department encourages use of its Learning Management System (LMS). Access LMS through your individual OH/ID. On the LMS homepage at top right, select the Course Catalog. Then search for sudden cardiac arrest to find the course. After permit holders view the materials and pass  a short test, they can earn their certificates of completion. 

 

4. First Aid Course (every 3 years or 5 if you are a teacher)

Our athletic training department through University Hospitals offers free courses from time to time.  Check the schedule below.  You can pay for one yourself and take it online at NFHS cost is $45 for Ohio coaches http://nfhslearn.com/courses/26, or any OHSAA/ODE approved 1st aid class.  http://www.ohsaa.org/members/coachescorner.htm

5. Fraud training

6. Mental Health training

7. Pupil Activity Permit and OH|ID account from the state of Ohio

You will need a OH|ID account.  You will need to apply through our Board of Education to get a 3 year certificate from the ODE- teachers should align the PAP with your liscense for a 5 year permit.  Cost varies depending on if you are a teacher or not.  The length of time the permit is good for varies from 3 to 5 years, again depending on if you are a teacher or not.

8. CPR (every 2 years)

You need a current CPR card.  Find a local course or do a web search of "online cpr" and find one that works for you.

 

All coaches must be approved by the BOE, volunteer and consultant coaches need to fill out an additional form with the HS athletic director.
