Community Update from Superintendent Angela Smith

Superintendent Angela Smith

May 27, 2022

Dear Madison Community,

As we end our school year, I want to thank each of you for your efforts to support Madison Local Schools during this school year.  I know at times there were differences but at the end of the day, everyone wanted what was best for our students, and that was being back in school and restoring traditions that mean so much.

I also want to thank our safety forces for all they do to keep our students safe.  In light of what happened in Texas this week, I appreciate the collaboration and communication that the schools have with both the police and fire departments.  School Safety is our number one priority, and I appreciate that our students let the adults know when they have concerns.

Congratulations to our two state qualifiers in the shot put.  Maddie Moretti threw 43 feet, 1 ¼” and placed first in the regional, and Becca Martin threw 39 feet 3 ¾” and placed third.  They will compete in the state track meet next weekend. We wish them the best of luck as they represent our Blue Streaks in Columbus.

This year, in lieu of the traditional high school summer reading assignments at the high school, the district encourages parents and students to participate in the Madison Public Library Summer Challenge program or read independently. We encourage all families at all levels to participate in the Summer Challenge.  For more information, click here. Our Madison Public Library does an outstanding job with summer programs.  Reading throughout the summer will help build our learning community.

For those with incoming Kindergarten students, if you have not registered your child, please do so.  You may register here. If you have questions about registration, please contact denean.mabe@madisonschools.net.

I want to congratulate Bill Mayer on being named Principal of Riverside High School.  We appreciate his six years of service to the Madison Local Schools.  He was an assistant principal at Madison High School and at North Elementary before being named as Principal at North Elementary in 2018.  We wish him the best in his new position.

I will update you as needed over the summer.  I hope that everyone has a safe and wonderful summer filled with good memories. #MadisonStrong!

Sincerely,

Angela Smith
Superintendent
