Community update, November 13

Angela Smith, Superintendent

November 13, 2020

Dear Madison Community,

As I shared with you this yesterday, the situation in our school community is beginning to mirror what is happening in the rest of the state. While cases among students are beginning to increase, we are also having to quarantine personnel. This is limiting our ability to continue our face-to-face instruction. Therefore, beginning Monday,  November 16, 2020, we are going to pause our in-person learning model for all buildings through November 30, 2020, with the intention of resuming face to face learning December 1, 2020. In addition, we are pausing all sports and activities through this time. Coaches and advisors will be able to meet with their groups virtually but all scheduled events will be paused.

While it is our intention to resume in-person learning December 1, 2020 please know that it will be based on the trajectory of the virus in our community as well as our students and staff. We want our students to return to the classroom as soon as possible. We will be using this time to deep clean our buildings and review all of COVID-19 protocols.

Students will need to follow their in-person schedules at the middle and high school. Attendance is mandatory and will be taken for every class except for study halls. Students do not have to log-in for study halls. At the elementary level, your building administrators will be sending out the schedule for students to follow and when attendance will be taken.

We know this is a challenging time for all of us. Students’ anxiety has been higher this week than previous weeks as the virus has begun to impact our schools. We know that in-person learning is the best place for our students and this decision to go remote was not made lightly.

We all need to do our part so we can safely return in December. As the Governor said on Wednesday, we need to get back to basics, wear our masks, social distance, and sanitize often.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. We will remain #Madison Strong!

Sincerely,

Angela Smith
Superintendent
