Community update, February 12

Angela Smith, Superintendent

February 12, 2021

Dear Madison Community,

We are halfway through our third quarter of the year -- time is flying by! Students have adjusted to the routine of being back in school and it is good to see students in the buildings. It is our hope that we are able to stay in school without having to go remote for an extended period of time the remainder of the year. Thankfully, our staff will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the end of the month, which will be a huge help.

Our staff will be scheduled for the vaccine throughout the day on February 25 at the Riverside campus. On February 26, staff will be engaged in professional development regarding trauma and mental health. Therefore, all students will be learning remotely both February 25 and February 26. Students will be assigned work by their teachers to be completed independently. Teachers have been advised that the assignments should be reinforcement of concepts previously taught or enrichment related activities.

We are not currently aware of which dose of the vaccine our staff will be receiving, which impacts when the staff will receive the second dose of the vaccine. Once we are aware of whether or not they will be receiving Pfizer or Moderna, I will share the final details with you. We are tentatively looking at March 18 or March 25 for the second dose, with Pfizer being given the first date and Moderna the latter. There will be no disruption to school if the vaccine is Moderna, but we will not know if there will be a school disruption until late next week.

On another note, you may have heard that the Board has placed a Levy on the May 4th ballot. All information regarding this issue can be found on the district website www.madisonschools.net.

Please remember that if there is a need to cancel school due to weather, the first four snow days will be Blizzard Bag Days, much like the remote learning days discussed above.

Finally, I hope each of you enjoys the holiday weekend with Valentine’s Day on Sunday and Presidents’ Day on Monday. Stay safe, healthy and warm. #MadisonStrong

Sincerely,
Angela Smith

Superintendent
