School Safety Week Tip #3

School safety is everyone’s job!  From our administrators, teachers support staff, students and parents, regular communication is key.  Students need to feel comfortable bringing their concerns to the adults in their lives. The School Resource Officer is one individual in the building and safety is everyone’s responsibility.

School Safety Week Tip #2

It is important to make school safety a regular part of our conversations.  Kenneth S. Trump, president of National School Safety and Security Services, said, “We can’t change the climate if we don’t change the conversation.”  We need to talk about school safety and emergency preparedness regularly and then practice what we expect.  Improvement can only occur with practice.

Safety Week

As a part of Safety Week, I thought I would share each day one of the ways we work to ensure a positive school environment for the safety of our students, staff and school community. Since 2013,  our district has worked with the Madison Village  and  Madison Township Police Departments to have a School Resource Officer in each elementary, our middle school and high school. The SRO’s work with building administrators on the school safety plans as well as  providing a positive presence for our students.  We encourage our students to talk to the SRO if they have a concern about safety in the school or the community. I encourage you to talk your child’s building principal if you have any questions or concerns regarding safety in our schools.
