Dear Madison Community,

Education has been in the news a great deal lately from both a federal and state perspective.  However, the most important aspect of our educational system is what happens at the local level and even more importantly what happens each and every day with our students and staff.  The Madison Local School District takes great pride in providing a quality education for our students to prepare them for life after high school and beyond.

The 2016-17 school year has flown by.  Since last year, the District has completed its strategic plan as well as conducted a community survey asking for feedback about the District.  A priority for both the District and community is to ensure our students are college and career ready.  As a community we need to work together to instill not only the necessary knowledge base but the day-to-day skills that are needed to be successful in the world today.

Another key priority in both the strategic plan and the survey is how the District communicates with the community.  This newsletter is a part of that goal.  We want feedback from our stakeholders, and we want to share with you the great things happening in our schools on a regular basis.  Our goal going forward is four publications a year.  The annual calendar that is mailed home in August, and three newsletters in November, March and June.  We will also be updating our website over the summer with an easier to navigate design.  Please know that at any time, you can call my office with questions or concerns as well.  In recent months, we started a Madison Schools Good News Page on Facebook and this is updated daily with many of the great things happening in our schools.

A final area of importance is our finances.  This newsletter provides caluable information about our District's funding.  Our District has maintained a quality education while reducing over 80 positions in the last six years.  I encourage you to read carefully the financial information, and if you have questions, please contact our Treasurer, Michael Vaccariello at 440-428-9322.  We also have posted on our website a lengthy Frequently Asked Questions regarding the District and the upcoming levy.

As we look to the end of the year, I hope to see you at one of our many events that celebrate the good work of our students and staff.  Also check out our website, www.madisonschools.net for up-to-date information and news about our schools.

Yours in Education,

Angela Smith, Superintendent
